Adhesives for technical textiles
As the name implies, technical textiles have a specific technical purpose and accordingly very specific properties.
Technical textiles are used in almost every industrial sector and many everyday objects. They often consist of a multilayer laminate held together by a specially developed adhesive that matches the intended use of the end product and ties in well with the multi-layer textile production process.
Manufacturing and installing roofing underlays
Manufacturing
Roofing underlays are used in a range of roof constructions. They prevent water seeping through but allow moisture to escape, thus protecting against mold and rot, etc.
Roofing underlays consist of a multilayer textile composite placed on top of the roof insulation. Bonding the composite layers requires an adhesive with excellent resistance values. The adhesive is applied as round or lozenge-shaped dots with an engraving roller, to ensure good breathability. The most suitable adhesives for using on house roofs are reactive PUR hotmelts and polyolefin hotmelts.
Installation and assembly
The individual underlay sheets are laid on the roof with an overlap and usually fixed with nails. Adhesive strips can be fixed along the edges beforehand to join the sheets and for faster and easier installation.

Adhesives for manufacturing abrasives
Abrasives such as sandpaper, sanding belts and accessories for sanding tools are used for many different industrial processes as well as for standard carpentry or DIY purposes. They must have a high resistance to heat caused by friction and to cooling liquids. The adhesive used for manufacturing these products plays a key role for the end product.
Sandpaper backing is typically a multilayer laminate comprising a textile layer and grained paper or plastic sheeting. The materials are usually bonded in fully automated roll-to-roll processes, where the adhesive is applied to the full surface of one side and fixed with rollers.
Using the right adhesive and finetuning the process settings will lead to high production efficiency.
