Adhesives for ship and boat building
The boat, yacht and ship building industry must adhere to strict regulations defined by various institutes. Only approved materials and components, including all adhesives and sealants which must also pass very stringent tests, may be used for a boat to be classified as seaworthy.
Our KLEIBERIT SeaCraft product line provides a wide range of suitable adhesives and sealants. All SeaCraft products are IMO-certified (FTP code 2010 part 2 and part 5) and have proven their worth in multiple ship building applications. We also provide the related expertise for automated and manual production processes.
KLEIBERIT SeaCraft stands for innovation and commitment, and plays a key role for the reliability and durability of the end product. Speak to our experts and let us advise you.

Reactive PUR hotmelts used in FlatLamination processes are the most efficient in production. KLEIBERIT 706.0, KLEIBERIT 706.1 and KLEIBERIT 711.3 are three IMO-certified PUR hotmelts for achieving elegant finishes with high-end decor materials.
KLEIBERIT 706.1.50 is also a suitable IMO-certified micro-emission (ME) adhesive . Due to the low content of monomeric isocyanate (< 0.1%), KLEIBERIT 706.1.50 ME is exempt from labeling with G and H hazard statements.
KLEIBERIT 332.0 is one of the world’s most widely used IMO-certified veneer glues for surface bonding real wood veneers.

Kitchen furniture for yachts and sports boats
Kitchen units in yachts and sports boats are made of the highest quality materials and usually made to measure. Interior fitters who specialise in this field customize the units to the exact needs and wishes of the owner. The adhesives used play a key role in the visual appearance, durability and reliability of each unit.
Surface lamination
Kitchen furniture is permanently exposed to heat and moisture. The tops and surfaces are laminated with decor materials such as ABS or PET films or real wood veneers – both to protect them and to achieve an appealing look and feel. There is a huge choice of decor materials available, providing endless design options.
As the end products must have excellent resistance to heat and steam, reactive PUR hotmelts are by far the best products for bonding purposes.
We offer three reactive PUR hotmelts for processing films in flat lamination processes: KLEIBERIT 706.0, KLEIBERIT 706.1 and KLEIBERIT 711.3. Our innovative, monomer-reduced hotmelt KLEIBERIT 706.1.50 and the reactive PUR hotmelt KLEIBERIT 706.4.50 rounds off our portfolio.
For real wood veneers, we recommend our KLEIBERIT 332.0 veneer glue, a tried and trusted product that has been used for many decades.

Ship and boat doors
Adhesives for wooden doors
Our KLEIBERIT SeaCraft® line offers a wide range of IMO-certified adhesives and glues for making wooden and wood-based doors for ships and boats.
For door blanks made of prefabricated materials that will be laminated with a decor, we recommend using the same hotmelts named above for surface lamination in FlatLamination processes.
Solid wood doors or combinations of solid wood and panel materials usually require structural bonding. Our PVAc white glues and PUR glues with the DIN EN 204 D4 quality label are the products of choice here. They have been tried and tested for many decades in this field. We also offer a two-component EPI system for especially resilient bonding requirements. All SeaCraft® products are IMO-certified!
If doors are made of a separate frame and panels, as is often the case, both are laminated with matching decors. This is usually done in wrapping lines using the KLEIBERIT 702.5 PUR hotmelt, which was designed specifically for this purpose. KLEIBERIT 702.5 is IMO-certified and achieves excellent results on all standard profile materials for indoor use.

Adhesives for sandwich doors
Sandwich panels with a honeycomb or hard foam core are very popular for ship doors, as they provide high stability without being too heavy. Ship builders have a huge variety of decor materials to choose from, leading to almost limitless design options.
KLEIBERIT adhesive systems ensure high-strength bonding and economically efficient manufacturing. FlatLamination is the standard process used. The best adhesives to use are the IMO-certified products KLEIBERIT 706.0, KLEIBERIT 706.1, KLEIBERIT 711.3 and the monomer-reduced hotmelt KLEIBERIT 706.1.50. The latter can be used for high gloss surfaces that have the same quality as glass panes.

Ship stairs
Stairs in ships, boats and yachts have to meet very specific standards, and only IMO-certified adhesives and glues may be used for this purpose. Our KLEIBERIT 303.0 PVAc glue and 1C PUR adhesive KLEIBERIT 501.0 are the products of choice for building stairs made of glued wood and other wood combinations. Both have proven themselves in millions of staircases and have the IMO wheelmark that signifies compliance with the strict guidelines of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Sandwich elements for interiors
Aluminium honeycomb panels are popular in shipbuilding as they combine high strength with low weight and there is a wide variety of designs available. The panels consist of an aluminium honeycomb core that is bonded to two top layers, usually also made of aluminium plates.
The deluxe market sector, in particular, offers a huge range of material combinations. Reactive two-component PUR adhesives are ideal to achieve high-strength bonding. The selective addition of a second component allows precise control over the chemical curing process and the degree of adhesive hardness, for customized production and a made-to-measure end product.
The sandwich elements can be coated with a wide range of decorative films and laminates. In terms of bonding quality and process customizability, reactive hotmelts are unbeatable for such purposes!
KLEIBERIT has a large portfolio of reactive hotmelts approved for boat and ship building (IMO FTP Code 2010).

Sandwich panels
Sandwich panels are very popular in ship and boat building. They are lightweight but extremely stable, and there is an almost unlimited choice of decors and materials on offer.
Using assembly adhesives to install the panels offers clear benefits over the traditional methods of drilling holes and using screws and dowels, etc. Adhesives are time-saving, easy to use, do not need any additional supports, and above all, they don’t make holes, which in some cases might affect the statics of the vessel.
